The 2022 replacement for the Salsa Journeyman, the Journeyer, has finally landed. I took the flat bar Deore build for a nice long ride and these are my initial thoughts, touching lightly on each component and the overall geometry.
Other thoughts
The pedals are definitely going to go. I’m most likely replacing them with some Raceface Chesters. The bar grips are also going, with either ESI Chunky grips or Ergon bar tips going in their place. The seat is O.K., but again likely getting swapped for a Fabric Spoon as is my preference for longer rides. The fork is very stiff with little compliance, so a softer tire pressure really comes in handy for comfort on gravel and chunky stuff. The weight is fine but not amazing. The posture is a bit more forward than I would have imagined, giving some mild road bike vibes.
